Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett gets screws removed from ankle

The most important screws in college football have apparently done their job.

Two and a half months after fracturing his right ankle, J.T. Barrett is officially on the mend. The Ohio State rising sophomore posted a photo of his now-removed screws on his Instagram page. “Surgery went well, got these screws taken out,” he wrote.

Barrett underwent surgery on Nov. 30 with the plan to be back for spring, though no one could have known at the time what a fight he’d have on his hands to wrestle the job back from Cardale Jones - with two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Braxton Miller waiting in the wings.

“I think it will be interesting,” new Ohio State quarterbacks coach Tim Beck said recently. I’m excited to get a chance to get to know the guys and look forward to seeing really what develops. But I don’t know. It’s kind of a good problem to probably have right now, isn’t it?”

The Buckeyes will open spring ball on March 3 - two weeks from today - and play their spring game on April 18.
