Pitt loses starting center for the season to ACL injury

Pittsburgh may be off to a moderately impressive start to the 2014 season, but the Friday night victory at Boston College did not come without a cost. Starting center Artie Rowell was lost for the year with a torn ACL suffered in the game.

Rowell injured his left ACL in the Friday night game in ACC play. The injury was suffered in the second quarter. Pittsburgh has not confirmed exactly when Rowell will undergo surgery.

“I know I speak for our entire team in saying we are very disappointed for Artie,” Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst said in a released statement. “I’m certain he will attack his rehabilitation with everything he has to get himself ready for next season.”

Rowell still has a season of eligibility left at Pittsburgh, and as long as surgery and rehab goes well he should be back in the trenches for the Panthers next season. Rowell had started 15 straight games for the Panthers.
