USC defensive end Leonard Williams is not in uniform and will not play against California on Saturday, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.
There’s no word yet on what kind of injury has befallen Williams, who is perhaps USC’s best defensive player. The sophomore is second on the team with 55 tackles and leads the squad with 10 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Productive junior J.R. Tavai will likely fill in for Williams against Cal. Tavai has 31 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks playing mostly as a reserve this year, though he has started some games.
If USC is to have a chance to beat Stanford next week, it will need Williams back.
