Report: Penn State Players Won’t Face Charges

What started out as yet another Penn State player(s) involved in a marijuana imbroglio has ended with no charges being filed against any member of the Nittany Lion football team.On April 25 -- the night of the annual spring game -- police entered a campus apartment while investigating a noise complaint (fire alarm?) and spotted and smelled marijuana. The residence in question is home to four Penn State players -- reportedly Johnnie Troutman, Stephfon Green, Eric Latimore and Devon Still. It was initially reported that the apartment belonged to quarterback Darryl Clark. Later reports reflected the actual residents, and it was reported/assumed that at least some -- if not all -- of the players were present when police entered the building. As it turns out, none of them were.As a result, no charges will be filed against any of the players. One person, however, will be charged with possession of a controlled substance. It’d been previously reported that the people present in the residence were friends of the players, but that has yet to be verified -- I think.Yesterday, head coach Joe Paterno said the whole incident was overblown from the start.”That’s been blown way out of proportion,” Paterno told a group of D.C.-area boosters. “It’s a party, and my guys horsing around with marijuana? You know, we test them all the time. And the four kids who were renting the apartment were not in the apartment when the police got in there.”
