The news is not good for the Southern Miss faithful in the audience as star wide receiver DeAndre Brown has apparently aggravated the same leg he broke last season.
According to a report on ESPN.com, and citing a source inside the USM program, the receiver re-aggravated his broken leg playing a pickup game of basketball. As a result, Brown will be in a boot for at least the next ten days.
More importantly, however, is the fact that the report states that Brown will miss Southern Miss’ season opener against Alcorn State. Provided he has no additional setbacks, though, the receiver should return in time for the following week’s Central Florida game.
When reached via email, USM assistant athletic director Jack Duggan told CFT that the school has “not had any confirmation one way or another” on any facet of the ESPN report
Last season, Brown caught 67 passes for 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns, and was the nation’s leading receiver until breaking the tibia in his left leg in a horrific incident during the New Orleans Bowl.
