Few teams will show off some of their tricks in the spring game or final spring practice in front of fans. That may be good news for fans of TCU after the Horned Frogs failed to produce any offensive points in the final spring practice Saturday.
“We didn’t want to go as fast today because we knew people were watching us, and they didn’t want to call a lot of things today,” TCU head coach Gary Patterson said to Dallas Morning News. TCU had been one of many programs this spring focusing more on picking up the pace of the offense. Fans did not get a chance to see those new wrinkles Saturday. Patterson did not seem too satisfied with the offensive production the Horned Frogs had either.
“I didn’t feel really good about today as far as offensively,” Patterson said. “We’d have liked to have a lot more success, but we’ve got to get some bodies back. We were pretty physical which is why we’re depleted. At the end, we were down to no scholarship running backs.”
The Dallas Morning News has a rundown of some of the big takeaways from the final practice, but here are some of the brief details. The offense turned the ball over four times. For a team that was eighth in the Big 12 in turnover margin with a -2, that i surely not pleasing for Patterson. There were some positives for TCU as spring practices came to a close. The offensive line has grown in size, one of the biggest needs once the program moved in to a tougher conference two years ago. Defensive star Devonte Fields reportedly had a big day and is once again looking like one of the top defensive players in the Big 12.
Now we just need to see if TCU’s offense can find a rhythm heading in to the fall and find a way to score some points. TCU ranked eighth in the Big 12 in average scoring in 2013.
