The MLB Draft has taken one more college football player to the baseball diamond. Tulsa kicker Cole Way will put his football days behind him to pursue a chance to work at a career in baseball.
Way was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 38th round of the MLB Draft last week despite last throwing a pitch in 2010 as a senior in high school. Way will not be the only college football player heading to the minor leagues, of course. Nebraska’s incoming two-sport athlete, Monte Harrison, decided to sign with the Milwaukee Brewers after being drafted with the 50th overall pick. Harrison was set to play wide receiver for the Huskers as well as baseball.
Bowling Green quarterback Cody Callaway was drafted in the 34th round by the Cleveland Indians, but it is unknown if he will follow through with a pro baseball career just yet. Johnny Manziel, who was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft this spring by the Cleveland Indians, was also drafted this weekend by the San Diego Padres.
