UAB adds first player since shutting down football program

And now the saga begins to come full circle. UAB, six months after shutting down the football program only to reinstate it, has added its first new player to the program. According to a report from Al.com, UAB will add offensive lineman Tyler Jones via a transfer from Memphis.

What is still unknown is just when UAB will return to the football field. The 2015 season was wiped out as soon as the school announced the decision to shut the program down. A return in 2016 seems rather optimistic at this point, at least in a full FBS capacity in Conference USA. UAB Athletics Director Mark Ingram previously suggested a more realistic expectation would be for UAB to play football again in 2017. Conference USA is holding their place in the conference for when the Blazers are ready.
