Utah looking for another Top 25 upset at home, leads ASU

It seems Utah enjoys playing games at home. The Utes have been a much better team at home this year, and they are looking to score another top 25 upset. Utah’s defense has flustered Arizona State’s high-powered offense in the first half and leads the Sun Devils 9-7 at halftime.

Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly rushed for a 10-yard touchdown in the first quarter but it has been all Utah since. Utah quarterback Travis Wilson completed a short touchdown pass to Dre Anderson later in the first quarter but the Utes missed the extra point attempt to stay behind on the scoreboard by one point. Andy Phillips would come on in the second quarter to successfully kick a 51-yard field goal to give Utah the 9-7 lead.

Utah’s defense has done a masterful job thus far. The Sun Devils entered the game ranked 10th in the nation in total offense, yet they only managed to pick up 91 yards of offense in the first half. Kelly has completed eight of 12 pass attempts but for just 44 yards. Arizona State running back Marion Grice has been held to seven yards on two rushing attempts. Utah has also held the time of possession advantage, holding the football for about nine more minutes in the first half.

Arizona State sits on top of the Pac 12 South Division standings and a win would keep them there without any question. A loss, however, would leave Arizona State in a crowded division situation with Arizona, UCLA and yes, even USC.
