Five days after a one-car accident nearly cost him his life, North Carolina State linebacker Nate Irving has been released from the hospital.
The school confirmed to the Raleigh News & Observer that the LB was released last Friday.
Irving was involved in a wreck very early on June 28 as he was headed back to campus from a trip to his hometown. Saying that either being sleepy or tired played a role in the wreck, police cited Irving with careless and reckless driving.
The accident left Irving with a broken leg and a collapsed lung, and successful surgery was performed later that night.
Irving’s mother was quoted early last week as saying that her son “knows he’s lucky to be alive.”
There has still been no indication from anyone involved as to how the injuries will affect Irving’s participation in 2009.
