Pod: Exit Interviews — Mitchell and Westbrook

Donovan Mitchell

When you look at Basketball Monster’s 9-category leaderboard, Donovan Mitchell stands out as a letdown — 68th overall on the season, and not even the top-ranked “Mitchell” in the league (that would be Mitchell Robinson, at 47th).

But that 68 number doesn’t tell the whole story of 2018-19 for Donovan, who shot 40.6 percent the first two months of the season (29 games), then shot 44.6 percent over his final 48. In fact, you can really break up Mitchell’s season into two distinct parts. And there are a lot of dividing points to choose, but here’s one:

Part 1 (first 29 games): 20.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.7 spg and 1.9 3s (40.6 percent from the field)

Part 2 (final 48 games): 25.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.7 apg, 1.2 spg and 2.8 3s (44.6 percent from the field)

Mitchell’s fantasy outlook going forward is just one of the many topics that Ryan Knaus and I tackled on the latest Rotoworld hoops podcast. Also discussed: the dilemma of trying to build a viable fantasy squad around Russell Westbrook, and what to expect from Caris LeVert after an exciting but partially lost season. Plus, Ryan accidentally coined the term of “pretzel-style” roster building, which actually ended up making a lot more sense than he intended.
