The UNC-Wilmington grad played his way into the event via Monday Qualifying. It’s his first start on the PGA TOUR but he showed no signs of nerves today. “Pretty excited. Yesterday teeing off I was a little bit nervous, but after the first tee ball, it’s just like any other competition. You play well, you’re going to do well and if you don’t, then you won’t.” Today, he peppered 15 greens with the highlight of his round being a 42'10" birdie bomb at the 12th. He missed six birdie chances from the 6-to-14 foot range so this round could have easily gone even lower. McShea walked off the course with a 17-footer to save par to keep his card clean. He only reached as high as 296th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings during his time at UNC-Wilmington but that may say more about the depth of amateur golf right now, considering he now finds himself on page one of a PGA TOUR leaderboard, through 36 holes.
