The NCAA Division III national championships concluded Friday, with Schreiner University holding on for the men’s title and Rhodes College cruising to victory in the women’s competition.
Schreiner carded a final-round total of 305 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. to finish the event at 33 over, five shots clear of Oglethorpe and eight shots ahead of Redlands. The win marks the third national title in men’s golf for Schreiner, based in Kerrville, Texas.
Rhodes shot a final-round 308 at Mission Inn in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., to win the women’s national title by 24 shots over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Rhodes began with a 10-shot lead after the first round and kept rolling from there, finishing 29 shots ahead of third-place Williams College.
In the men’s individual competition, Bobby Holden from Redlands took home the title with a 9-under 279, nine shots ahead of Schreiner’s Cheyne Kendall. Holden was the only player to finish the week under par and broke par in each of the four rounds of competition.
Georgiana Salant of Williams College won the women’s individual title, shooting a four-round total of 15-over 303. Salant closed with a 76 to finish two shots ahead of McKenzie Ralston from Mary Hardin-Baylor and four shots clear of Rhodes’ Jessica Zweifel.
