WINDERMERE, Fla. – Keegan Bradley is no stranger to the short putter.
He has practiced with it regularly at home in South Florida and tinkered with it at this year’s Memorial tournament, but he still draws a crowd when he sets out with one in his bag.
Bradley plans to use a standard-length model at this week’s Hero World Challenge and also used the non-anchored model at last month’s WGC-HSBC Champions. That doesn’t mean, however, he has fully converted.
“I’m trying to work my way into it. It feels comfortable, actually,” Bradley said following his pro-am round on Wednesday at Isleworth.
As for whether he plans to use it next year, Bradley said he’s not certain and that he plans to “take it as it goes.”
Bradley also said his decision was less motivated by next year’s looming ban on anchoring than his performance on the greens in 2014.
“I felt like this past year was my worst putting year ever,” said Bradley, who ranked 47th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained-putting.
Bradley, who is using a Scotty Cameron x5 Tour Duel Balance putter with a 37-inch shaft, said the biggest adjustment he’s had to make is in his setup but that his touch on the greens has improved since his transition.
