Casey on RC drama: ‘Hopefully, Davis calls [Bubba]’

ATLANTA – Even as the dramatic final round was wrapping up at East Lake, many players were turning their attention to the Ryder Cup and Sunday’s final captain’s pick for the U.S. team.

Captain Davis Love III is scheduled to announce his final pick during halftime of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys-Chicago Bears game, and Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell – who both lost a playoff to Rory McIlroy at the Tour Championship – seemed to have given the captain plenty to think about.

That left Bubba Watson, who finished tied for 10th at the finale, to wait for his Ryder Cup fate. At seventh in the world, Watson would become the highest ranked player to not be picked for a Ryder Cup team since Paul Casey in 2010.

Casey was also seventh in the world in ’10 when Colin Montgomerie passed on him as a pick.

Asked on Sunday at East Lake if he could relate to what Watson may have to go through if he is not picked, the Englishman’s response suggested he’s still not at peace with how the situation in ’10 transpired.

“Hopefully, Davis calls him because Colin never called me, but we’ll see,” Casey said.
