Tiger Woods’ return to competitive golf may still be unknown, but that doesn’t mean the 14-time major champ is remaining idle.
Fresh off a visit last week to his newest course design site outside Houston, Woods reportedly spent March 4 in Thompson’s Station, Tenn., scouting a potential course site that would be part of a 1,229-acre project being managed by Beacon Land Development.
“Tiger fell in love with the property,” Mike Abbott, Beacon’s president, told the Tennessean.
Woods reportedly spent the day gauging further interest in designing an 18-hole course that would become the centerpiece of a $150 million golf community near Nashville. According to Abbott, the former world No. 1 and burgeoning course designer liked what he saw at the property.
“We had Tiger’s initial interest, and now we have greater interest from his group,” Abbott said. “Tiger is a really hands-on guy. Things are moving in the right direction.”
Woods reportedly made the trip to Tennessee alongside Bryon Bell, his longtime friend, one-time caddie and currently the president of Tiger Woods Design.
“It’s clear Thompson’s Station is a vibrant community that loves golf, and Tiger has a real vision for what he thinks he could add,” Bell said.
Woods’ first worldwide design opened in late 2014 in Mexico, and his first U.S.-based course, Bluejack National, opened late last year in Montgomery, Texas. Woods was at Bluejack last week for the opening of a 10-hole short course named The Playgrounds.
Woods last played competitively in August, and he has been out of action since undergoing multiple back procedures in the fall. In a March 11 update to his website, Woods said, “Health-wise, I continue to improve,” but added that there is still no timetable for his return to competition.
