OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Hall of Famer Karrie Webb is eager to deliver more than frosty drinks in an international team competition.
Webb has some experience helping out the Americans at the Solheim Cup, but it’s all as a cart driver helping the captains.
“I brought out all the dairy smoothies,” Webb cracked.
Webb plays out of Pine Tree in Boynton Beach, Fla., where she has games with friends Meg Mallon and Beth Daniel, former American Solheim Cup captains. Webb volunteered to drive Mallon’s cart when Mallon was an assistant to Daniel at the 2009 Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms. She was a cart driver for Laura Diaz at the 2013 Solheim Cup at Colorado Golf Club, where Diaz was an assistant to Mallon.

“I’ve been a part of a few other Solheim Cups, just as a spectator, but the atmosphere is always completely different to any tournament that we play as individuals,” Webb said.
Webb relishes the chance to finally play for Australia in an international team competition as a professional. She is eager to hear the Australian national anthem before she begins play at the first tee at Caves Valley Golf Club on Thursday.
“When I was driving out here this morning, I was thinking about the first tee tomorrow, just hearing the national anthem,” Webb said. “I haven’t experienced that as a professional golfer. I did a few times as an amateur, but it’s been a long time since I played for my country, but also stood on the first tee, and to see the flag being raised. So that will be a really cool experience.”
