Immelman keeps grinding despite injury

AKRON, Ohio – Trevor Immelman was benched for two months earlier this season with a wrist injury and still may need surgery to correct the ailment, but the South African hasn’t lost his desire to practice and play.

“I’m just hard headed,” said Immelman, who plans to play this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, next week’s PGA Championship and possibly the Wyndham Championship in an attempt to improve his position for the FedEx Cup playoffs. “But I’ve learned a lot about myself.”

“Shag Bag” also learned on Thursday that the 2008 Masters champion may be the best switch hitter this side of Boston’s Jason Varitek. Immelman is left handed and actually started playing the game from the other side of the golf ball. He also bats and bowls left handed, that would be on the cricket pitch.

“I can still do it (hit left handed), it’s just a little awkward,” Immelman said.

“Shag Bag” knows the feeling.
