TURNBERRY, Scotland – Euan and Corrie Lawrence are our hosts with the most this week and are delightful. They own a beautiful four bedroom home near Ayr that serves as a bed and breakfast for yours truly and sidekick Rex Hoggard.
When we arrived last night Corrie had all the details prepared to make our visit stress free. We were handed keys to the house, maps of the area and told to treat the home as if it were our own. Corrie then wanted to know what time we wanted breakfast prepared.
After a great night of rest we awoke to a lavish breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs, cereal, toast, croissant, juice, milk and coffee. Then Corrie, who said she’s ‘never set foot in a betting parlor’ wanted to pick my brain on Tiger Woods and wondered if it’d be wise to bet 5 pounds him to win this week. I gave her good advice.
On the way out the door Corrie – a retired school teacher – handed us a lunchbox packed with sandwiches, cereal bars, fruit and bottled water. We were also told if we left our laundry from the previous 4-day golf trip that she’d wash it all for us.
As luck would have it, Euan – owner of his own architecture firm – is a member at Royal Troon, where he’s invited us to play with him later in the week.
We’ve only known the Lawrences for 14 hours, but I believe we’ve made friends for life.
