The Toronto Blue Jays became the eighth team to announce that they will extend protective netting. Two -- the White Sox and Nationals -- have already done so. The Jays and five other teams will do so for next season.
The team’s statement, from President of Business Operations Andrew Miller, said “fan safety is paramount to the Blue Jays,” and “we believe that fans should feel protected and secure during our games.”
The Jays did not specify the exact length or height of the netting. The White Sox have extended theirs all the way to the foul pole. The Jays plan to make the changes at both Rogers Centre and at Dunedin Stadium, their spring training facility, in Florida.
