We’ll see what actually happens once the price tag flies past $100 million, but for now the Blue Jays are saying they’ll try to re-sign left-hander David Price.
General manager Alex Anthopoulos said during his end-of-season media briefing that the Blue Jays have “strong interest” in bringing back Price after acquiring the impending free agent at the trade deadline and “we’ll be in the game” once offers start rolling in for the former Cy Young winner.
Price was fantastic for Toronto down the stretch, going 9-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 11 starts, but he allowed 16 runs in 23 postseason innings and there were several times where manager John Gibbons seemed hesitant to rely on Price.
Price is one of the best pitchers in baseball and at age 30 he’s going to receive a bunch of massive contract offers, but rightly or wrongly it’s possible his 5.12 ERA in 63 career playoff innings could scare some potential suitors off and the Blue Jays’ postseason experience with Price certainly wasn’t a great one.
