Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia could return to the team as soon as Tuesday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. Pedroia has been out since July 23 with a right hamstring injury.
The Red Sox, in Pedroia’s absence, have used Brock Holt and Josh Rutledge at second base. Holt has hit at around the league average with a .731 OPS while Rutledge, playing mostly against left-handed pitchers, has a .794 OPS.
Pedroia was hitting .287/.348/.426 with nine home runs and 34 RBI in 337 plate appearances prior to landing on the disabled list.
The Red Sox completed a series sweep of the Phillies with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon. They’re now 64-72 but still rank last in the AL East.
