Gavin Floyd to make Braves debut Tuesday

Gavin Floyd was activated from the disabled list Sunday morning after a 12-month recovery from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and will make a spot start for the Braves on Tuesday in Atlanta against the visiting Cardinals. It was Ervin Santana’s turn in the Braves’ rotation, but Santana suffered a bruised thumb during an at-bat last week so he will be skipped as a precautionary move.

This all comes from the AJC‘s David O’Brien.

Floyd -- who was signed to a one-year, $4.5 million contract this winter -- will likely shift to a bullpen role after Tuesday’s start, even if it goes well. The Braves already have a really strong five-man starting rotation between Santana, Julio Teheran, Alex Wood, Aaron Harang, and Mike Minor.

Floyd has made just one relief appearance since the beginning of the 2008 season.

The 31-year-old right-hander has made 158 starts in that span.
