Hitting coach Dave Magadan has left the Red Sox to take the same job with the Rangers, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.

Magadan served as Boston’s hitting coach since 2007 and Bradford reports that he was also in talks with the Pirates, Mariners, and Indians before deciding to replace Scott Coolbaugh on the Rangers’ staff.

Texas is obviously a good place for a hitting coach, as the Rangers combine lots of offensive talent with a ballpark that boosts power numbers. Of course, this season the Rangers led MLB in runs scored and apparently still felt the need to replace Coolbaugh, so it’s also a job with some pretty lofty expectations.
