Joel Pineiro will stick with the Orioles while rehabbing from July shoulder surgery, as Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that he’s re-signed on a minor-league deal.
Last year Pineiro signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies, got cut in spring training, and then signed a minor-league contract with the Angels. He spent some time at Triple-A, but then had surgery to repair a torn labrum.
That’s a tough injury to come back from, particularly at age 34, but if healthy he could emerge as a back-of-the-rotation candidate in the second half.
