Brewers’ center fielder Keon Broxton won’t be finishing the year with the club after breaking his wrist on a catch at the wall during the Cubs-Brewers’ matinee on Friday.
Milwaukee was up 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Tommy La Stella roped a line drive to center field, forcing Broxton back to the fences on a running catch and pinning his right arm against the wall at Wrigley Field. He was helped off the field and diagnosed with a fractured right wrist following the Brewers’ 5-4 loss in extra innings.

Per a report by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Broxton’s time with the Brewers will be cut short just two weeks before the end of the season. After getting off to a slow start in the first half, during which the outfielder batted just 125/.253/.188 in 29 games, Broxton returned for a strong second showing at the end of July. Through September 15, he devastated opposing pitchers with a .289/.392/.535 slash line, 18 extra bases and eight home runs in 45 appearances. Without the 26-year-old rookie manning center field, the Brewers will likely turn to Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Jake Elmore as they close out their season.
