Matt Moore nearing minor league rehab assignment

Tampa Bay’s management and medical staff have mapped out a timetable for Matt Moore that should get the 25-year-old lefty back in the Rays’ starting rotation around the first or second week of June.

Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune says Moore is scheduled to throw a simulated game Wednesday and then another one five days later. If both of those go well, he will be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment. And it should only take him 3-4 minor league starts to get properly tuned up for the bigs.

Moore has been on the shelf since undergoing Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last April.

He boasts a 3.53 ERA and 339 strikeouts in 347 career big league innings.
