Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY reports that Mets minor league pitcher Brandon Welch has been suspended 50 games for using a drug of abuse.
Welch, 23, was taken in the fifth round of the 2012 draft by the Mets. He was promoted to Single-A for the first time to begin the 2014 season with Brooklyn. Welch finished with a 5.18 ERA and a 21/12 K/BB ratio in 33 innings over three starts and 11 relief appearances.
