Buster Olney reports that Major League Baseball has let three executives go as a part of its restructuring of the Baseball Operations operation. The newly unemployed: Darryl Hamilton, Mike Port and Ed Burns.
Hamilton was an assistant to Bud Selig and the other two worked under Bob Watson. Now Joe Torre is in charge of baseball operations and you have to figure that these moves were made in conjunction with him coming on board. One also wonders if this had anything to do with the umpire meeting we discussed earlier. Or, even if the dismissals don’t, if the fact of Torre and new people coming online might change the way umpires are supervised and disciplined.
