A little drama is good for business. Via a Major League Baseball press release ...

Secaucus, N.J., October 5, 2014 - MLB Network’s exclusive coverage of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Game 2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals last night set records as the most-watched and highest-rated program in the network’s history. MLB Network’s game telecast, which began at 9:30 p.m. ET, drew 1.8 million viewers and a 1.7 coverage rating, marking increases of 38% and 31% over the previous highs for its telecast of the 2012 ALDS Game Two between the Detroit Tigers and the Oakland Athletics. Last night’s game viewership peaked with 2.2 million viewers from 12:45-1:00 a.m. ET.

It helps, of course, that one of the teams plays in the second-biggest market in the U.S. and that the other team has a fanbase that extends across the Midwest. Game 3 is on FOX Sports 1 Monday at 9:07 p.m. ET.
