The Red Sox have placed starter Rick Porcello on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 30, with inflammation in his right triceps, NESN’s Ricky Doyle reports. Porcello’s condition developed after his July 29 start against the White Sox in which he allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and a walk in two-plus innings.
It’s been a tough year for Porcello, who signed a four-year, $82.5 million extension with the Red Sox in April. The right-hander has a 4.81 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and a 92/27 K/BB ratio in 114 2/3 innings. He seemed to be putting things together over his three starts prior to facing the White Sox.
The Red Sox don’t expect Porcello to miss much time. Henry Owens or Brian Johnson are candidates to make a couple of starts in his place in the meantime.
