The Astros lost in spectacular fashion last night

Jake Elmore, Jimmy Paredes

Houston Astros shortstop Jake Elmore, left, and right fielder Jimmy Paredes collide and the ball gets loose as they try to catch a pop fly by Pittsburgh Pirates’ Russell Martin with the bases loaded for the last out in the bottom of the ninth inning of the baseball game on Friday, May 17, 2013, in Pittsburgh. The Astros aren’t just losing a ton of ballgames, they are losing ugly.

After Edgar Gonzalez pitched himself into a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth last night against the Pirates, he induced a fairly innocent looking pop-up to shallow right field which would have sent the game into extra innings. However, while it appeared that second baseman Jake Elmore had camped under the ball for the third out of the inning, right fielder Jimmy Paredes soon came into the picture. And well, check it out for yourself (GIF courtesy of MLB Gifs).

Yeesh. You can watch video of the play here. Elmore is actually Paredes’ second victim this week, as he collided with Jose Altuve on Monday night and partially dislocated his jaw.
