Just over two years ago, Jacob Turner was the main piece sent by the Tigers to the Marlins for Anibal Sanchez. Today: he’s been designated for assignment, reports Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. I guess that means that Detroit won the trade, eh? Or maybe not. Miami called up Brian Flynn to take his place and he came over in the same trade. Maybe there’s still hope. Or not.
Quite a fall for Turner, who was once one of the better-thought-of pitching prospects around. He was given every opportunity to succeed in the Marlins rotation before being demoted to the bullpen in June, but has complied an 8-19 record with a 4.41 ERA over 47 appearances, 37 of them starting.
Turner is only 23, of course, and could very easily turn it around. Someone will likely take a chance on him. Miami, however, has apparently seen enough.
