The Marlins expect to have a manager in place in two weeks

That according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, who says that the Feesh are
in the process of shoring up their slate of contenders. Among the possibilities: Bobby Valentine, Jim Fregosi, Bo Porter, Tony Pena, Ted Simmons, Tim Wallach and, of course, current manager Edwin Rodriguez. A couple of observations:

Within “a couple of weeks” is still the postseason. Baseball has long discouraged teams from making big announcements while the playoffs were still going on, so either the Marlins will ignore baseball’s wishes in this regard, or else they’ll decide on a guy and try to keep it quiet. Good luck with that if it’s Bobby Valentine! We’re never more than two Google searches away from knowing what he had for breakfast, so we’ll definitely know if he’s the next Florida manager;

That list of candidates looks like a nice divide between “name guys” like Valentine, Pena and, I suppose, Fregosi and Simmons, and relatively unheralded managerial prospects, as it were, like Wallach, Porter and Rodriguez. I wonder if Loria -- clearly wanting a Valentine type going back to last summer -- and the front office people -- who did not -- just decided that they each get their own list and they’ll narrow it down from there.
