In an effort to speed up ballgames in their upcoming tournament, the Southeastern Conference is going to start timing how long it takes pitchers to deliver the ball.
That’s not news, because after all, the rules of baseball provide for such a thing. The difference here is that the SEC is going to use an actual on-the-field clock:A clock mounted below the outfield video board at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala., will show the seconds ticking down. An umpire not on the field will operate the clock.
“If I feel like I’m going slow, I guess I will look up there and see,” Vanderbilt pitcher Chase Reid said. “It’s going to be like being a quarterback.”
