Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reported yesterday that Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein plans to talk to soon-to-be free agent outfielder Dexter Fowler about staying in Chicago. If Fowler decides to test the market, however, the Cubs are prepared to consider other alternatives.

Fowler, who turns 30 in March, hit .250/.346/.411 with 17 home runs, 46 RBI, and 20 stolen bases in 690 regular season plate appearances. He performed well in the playoffs, hitting two doubles and two homers in 39 trips to the plate.

Fowler earned $9.5 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility heading into the 2015 season.
