Other than activating Wil Cordero from the DL, the Marlins don’t plan on making many September roster moves.
''I don’t like a lot of guys around. They just get in the way,’' said manager Jack McKeon. In addition to Cordero, Florida will likely opt for a third catcher in Matt Treanor, and an extra reliever, maybe Ben Howard. Joe Dillon and his 36 homers deserves to see the majors, but McKeon said Dillon probably wouldn’t get off the bench.

Wil Cordero continued his rehab going 2-for-3 with a HR and 3 RBI at Single-A Jupiter.
Cordero could be part of the Marlins’ expanded roster in September if he suffers no further problems with his rehab.

The Nationals are expected to sign first baseman Wil Cordero to a one-year contract Monday.
Cordero should get starts in left field and/or first base against left-handed pitching. Where this leaves J.J. Davis is anyone’s guess.

Manager Jack McKeon has promised to give his three native Puerto Ricans plenty of playing time in the series vs. the Expos in San Juan.
Mike Lowell and Ramon Castro were already assured of getting their at-bats, but Wil Cordero could get a couple starts, knocking Jeff Conine or Hee Seop Choi to the bench for a day.

The Marlins have offered free agent Wil Cordero a one-year deal.
As long as he isn’t used regularly, Cordero could help Florida. he would be a fine option to start at first base against left-handers.

The Marlins are still talking to free agent Wil Cordero about a one-year deal.
Cordero was offered a contract by the team last week, “We’ve had some interest in Wil,” Marlins GM Larry Beinfest said. “He can do a couple of things for you. He can fill in at first base. He can play the outfield. He’s got some power from the right side. Whether we’re able to get something done at this point, I don’t know. Our money is very limited.”

Wil Cordero, who has been on the DL since May 19, will miss at least six more weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday.
This was a scheduled event. Cordero had the same operation on his left knee two weeks ago.
  • NYM 1st Baseman
Wil Cordero will start at first base over Jeff Liefer on Opening Day and maybe beyond.
''It helps that I know him. I know what he’s capable of doing, so that’s why I’m giving him the first shot,’' manager Frank Robinson said. We also know what Cordero is capable of doing and it doesn’t include being a quality major league first baseman. It likely will be Liefer’s job before long, but in the meantime, Cordero is a fine pick in NL-only leagues. Robinson might even bat him cleanup.

Wil Cordero hit a grand slam and singled tonight in Montreal’s loss to Florida.
Cordero is playing well over the last couple of weeks, raising his average from .250 to .274 since June 25. The Expos should still be trying to upgrade at first base, but they seem more concerned with adding a pitcher right now.
