This is a nice play from Anthony Davis that occurred during his team’s 48-point win (!) over the Timberwolves on Friday, but it’s really just an excuse to let you know just how dominant he has been.
Davis is averaging 24.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, and is leading the league in blocked shots with an average of a ridiculous 4.1 per contest.
By contrast, Davis led the league in blocked shots last season by averaging only 2.1 per game over 67 regular season appearances.
It’s only been eight regular season games, but Davis has been simply otherworldly to begin this season. If his points and rebound averages per game were to hold (which is quite possible), Basketball Reference tells us that he’d be in the statistical company of several Hall of Fame players. When adding in his blocked shots average (which isn’t likely to continue all season long, but hey, who knows), he’d be only the third player ever to put up those kinds of numbers, with only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon being able to replicate the statistical feat previously.
