It wasn’t unreasonable to expect the New Jersey Devils to give the Ottawa Senators fits tonight, especially with Kyle Turris out of commission.
Now, to do so in blowout fashion (so far at least)? That’s unexpected.
The Devils - particularly Travis Zajac - made Craig Anderson’s night miserable (and short) on Thursday, chasing Ottawa’s starter with four goals on seven shots in 13:56 of game time.
You can see that barrage in the video above, with Zajac grabbing a goal and three assists while Kyle Palmieri generated two tallies and a helper himself.
Per @EliasSports: Travis Zajac (1-3—4) is 2nd in @NJDevils history w/ 4 PTS in 1st period of a game (Patrik Elias: 1-3—4 on 12/20/00 vs DAL)

To be fair to Anderson, Lee Stempniak piled another goal on the Senators when Andrew Hammond took over, so maybe it’s just one of those nights.
