Lundqvist is trying not to pile on extra pressure
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has two shutouts in the Eastern Conference Finals, but his team is still down 3-2 going into Game 6 on Friday.
The Rangers could certainly use another great performance from their star goaltender and Lundqvist must realize that, but he isn’t going to pile on any more pressure on himself. Or at least, that’s his goal.
“It’s tough when you go into a game like this and you want to win so bad, you might put more pressure than you need,” Lundqvist said. “When you’re out there you just try to focus on the things you always focus on. The challenge every time you play an important game is to find a good balance mentally. I’m just trying to approach it the same way.”
Lundqvist’s last two games haven’t been his best performances. He faced just 16 shots on goal on Wednesday – a new low for him in the 2012 playoffs – but still allowed four goals. All the same, Rangers coach John Tortorella thinks Lundqvist will “play his best game [Friday].”
