After scoring four goals and nine points in 28 games with the Maple Leafs in 2013-14, Trevor Smith has agreed to a new one-year deal.

The 29-year-old forward has bounced around the league, playing in 52 career NHL games with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Toronto, but he’s excelled in the minors. He served as the AHL Toronto Marlies captain in 2013-14 and helped guide them to the Western Conference Final. He finished the postseason with three goals and 11 points in 11 contests.

Toronto also signed Rinat Valiev to a three-year, entry-level contract. Valiev was taken by Toronto in the third-round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Valiev had 28 points and 68 penalty minutes in 55 games with the WHL Kootenay Ice last season. He also had a goal and nine points in 13 contests during the 2014 playoffs.
