Paul MacLean was fired from his job as head coach of the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 8. According to one report, he could be hired as the new head coach of the New Jersey Devils by Saturday.

If true, he’d have a new job less than a month after losing his previous one. For the Devils, it would also be a quick turnaround. On Friday, the Devils fired Peter DeBoer, and general manager Lou Lamoriello is certainly hearing his share of criticism.

The Devils have not confirmed the latest report on the Devils coaching situation, or announce a replacement for DeBoer.

From Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger:

With teams set to resume play after the NHL’s Christmas break, speculation among Devils players is that Paul MacLean will be introduced Saturday morning as the team’s new coach.

MacLean, 56, was fired by the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 8 after that team got off to an 11-11-5 start.
