SERIES OF SPECIAL PROGRAMS TO BEGIN THIS WEEKEND WITH DEBUTS OF ALL ACCESS: 2011 BRIDGESTONE WINTER CLASSIC AND GROWING UP HOCKEY

Bethesda, Md. (Dec. 11, 2014) – Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will present comprehensive coverage leading up to and surrounding the Washington Capitals’ appearance in the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic against the Chicago Blackhawks at Nationals Park on Jan. 1, highlighted by a series of special programs, expanded gameday shows, and extensive multiplatform news and analysis.

Comcast SportsNet’s three-part Winter Classic programming series will begin this weekend with the debut of All Access: 2011 Bridgestone Winter Classic on Dec. 13 at 10:30 p.m. and Growing Up Hockey on Dec. 14 at 9 p.m. A program covering the logistics of the event, Building of the Bridgestone Winter Classic, will debut Dec. 21 at 9 p.m. The network will also lead up to event day by presenting a series of Winter Classic vignettes daily throughout the month.

On New Year’s Day, Comcast SportsNet will present special editions of its signature Capitals pregame and postgame shows surrounding the Winter Classic, which will be televised by NBC at 1 p.m. Bridgestone Winter Classic Pregame Live, which will air from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a one-hour Bridgestone Winter Classic Postgame Live will combine to deliver two-and-a-half hours of news, analysis, interviews and commentary from Nationals Park. The network’s full roster of Capitals announcers, hosts, analysts and reporters, as well as special guests, will be featured on the shows.

Extensive Winter Classic coverage will also be featured on the network’s news and entertainment programs, including Geico SportsNet Central and SportsTalk Live with Brian Mitchell. Comprehensive written, video and interactive content will be delivered across the network’s online, mobile and social media platforms, highlighted by CSNwashington.com. Special Winter Classic Programs:

All Access: 2011 Bridgestone Winter Classic – Debut: Dec. 13 at 10:30 p.m. (Multiple Encores)

The one-hour program, narrated by Al Koken, will revisit the Capitals’ only other Winter Classic appearance, a 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Heinz Field on Jan. 1, 2011. The show will feature more than two dozen interviews with players, coaches and media members who participated in the event.

Growing Up Hockey – Debut: Dec. 14 at 9 p.m. (Multiple Encores)

The half-hour special will detail several Capitals’ earliest experiences with hockey, including their memories of playing outdoors and when they first fell in love with the game. Hosted by Jill Sorenson, the show will take viewers to Toronto, where Capitals forward Joel Ward began his journey to the NHL playing street hockey. Comcast SportsNet analysts and former Capitals Craig Laughlin and Alan May will also share their childhood memories and explain how they give back to the game.

Building of the Bridgestone Winter Classic – Debut: Dec. 21 at 9 p.m. (Multiple Encores)

The half-hour show will explore the logistics and preparation involved in hosting one of the NHL’s marquee events, including a behind-the-scenes look at the building of the rink at Nationals Park. Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis and Gary Bettman, the commissioner of the NHL, will be among those featured in exclusive interviews.
