Messi, 29, suffered the injury in a draw with Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp in September and has missed Barcelona’s last three games.

In a statement Barca calmed down any talk of Messi appearing against Deportivo La Coruna this weekend in La Liga, although Messi may have an outside chance to face Pep Guardiola and Manchester City next Wednesday at the Nou Camp.

“Both Leo Messi and Samuel Umtiti, despite neither yet being declared fit for selection as they battle to recover from injury, were able to join the rest of the team for the workout.”

With a key few weeks of La Liga and UEFA Champions League action coming up, Messi’s return will be a big boost to Luis Enrique after his reigning Spanish champions lost 4-3 at Celta Vigo in La Liga and edged by Borussia Monchengladbach in the UCL before the international break.

Yes, they still have Luis Suarez and Neymar around to pick up the slack but Messi is Messi.

That sound you hear is a collective sigh of relief from Barcelona’s fans around the world.
