Sporting Kansas City added just a little distance on the pursuers with a 2-1 win over Toronto – but this one was closer that you might have thought.
Toronto had chances in this one, and even took the first-half lead.
But Paul Mariner’s men have had some issues holding leads in 2012. Plus, it’s hard when serendipity intervenes. Balls bouncing off the turf and looping almost comically over a goalkeeper. Another shot that slips through the netminder’s fingers. (We’re seeing quite a few goalkeeper errors lately in MLS.)
For Sporting Kansas City, one of the big “wins” happened before kickoff; Roger Espinoza’s availability remained in question about 24 hours before kickoff as Wigan Athletic attempted to put something together to lure the Honduran international.
But there he was at Livestrong Sporting Park, doing his thing right to the end, still full of vim and vigor as SKC closed out its 15th win this year.
Here is the highlight pack:
(Oh, don’t miss the tape job on Mariner’s glasses. It’s very ... uh ... Mariner.)
