MLS Snapshot: New York Red Bulls 1-1 Orlando City SC (video)

Orlando RBNY

The game in 100 words (or less): Bradley Wright-Phillips would probably like it if the New York Red Bulls could face Orlando City SC more often. The veteran striker notched his third goal in two matches this season against the Lions, giving New York the early advantage. Kevin Molino’s tap-in equalized for Orlando in the second-half, giving the teams the share of the points. Officiating was again at the center of attention, with eight yellow cards and a red distributed by referee Ted Unkel on the evening. For the Red Bulls, the draw gives Jesse Marsch’s side their first road point of the season, while Orlando remains unbeaten at home (1-0-4).

Three four moments that mattered

19' — Kljestan slips BWP in on goal for opener — The Red Bulls may want to start playing Orlando City more often. Wright-Phillips notched his third goal in two matches against the Lions on Friday, after Kljestan’s clever through ball played in the striker.

38' — Robles double save preserves lead — There’s a reason why Luis Robles was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015, and he displayed just why in the buildup to halftime. The shot-stopper turned aside Kaka’s effort from distance, before closing down Cyle Larin on the rebound.

67' — Molino equalizes off the counter — It’s almost certain that Larin is going to be involved when Orlando scores a goal, and that was the case here. The striker was launched forward by Darwin Ceren’s long ball, before Larin somehow managed to find Kevin Molino in the box. From there it was gravy, simply touching it past a sprawling Robles.

85' — Higuita hits the shower early — Ted Unkel had an active night in the center of the park, this being his eighth card of the night. In fairness to the ref, it was one of the few calls he got right when Cristian Higuita was sent off for this studs-up tackle on Sacha Kljestan.
