I’m sorry, but there was not a single reasonable thing anyone was going to do that would keep me from going with a pun when I found out that Jeff Plush was chosen as the second commissioner in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League.
“I am thrilled and quite frankly humbled to have this opportunity to be the Commissioner of the National Women’s Soccer League,” Plush said in a press release. “I am truly excited to build on the great work that has already been accomplished in the last two years. I am extremely passionate about this sport and very excited to be a part of the women’s game, especially with the exemplary young women that play in this league who continually demonstrate a commitment to their fans and communities.”
From the Associated Press:He’s a former MLS board member and managing director of the Colorado Rapids. On the MLS board from 2006-11, Plush helped the league evolve from 12 to 19 teams and added 13 soccer-specific stadiums.
Before joining the NWSL, Plush was managing partner of Helium Sports Group.
NWSL was looking for a leader and visionary to move league forward. Time will tell on Plush, but business résumé is impressive.

The MLS connection is an important one to note, as the NWSL could certainly gain from more promotion from its American top-flight peer.
Plush replaces Cheryl Bailey, the former USWNT general manager who ran point for the NWSL’s first two seasons.
