Everton haven’t done the double over Manchester United since the 1979-80 season...
At half time on Sunday at Goodison Park they are well on their way to beating the Red Devils home and away for the first time in over 44 years, giving themselves a huge boost in their race for the top four in the process.
It was a nightmare first half for David Moyes’ Manchester United side -- the former Everton manager was greeted with boo’s after returning to the club where he managed for over a decade until last summer -- saw the Toffees go 2-0 up with a penalty kick from Leighton Baines and a tidy finish from Kevin Mirallas.

In the 28th minute Everon went ahead, as a rapid counter-attack saw Steven Naismith set up Romelu Lukaku who sent a curling shot towards the bottom corner that Phil Jones clearly handled, after slipping on the greasy Goodison surface. Baines stepped up to send David De Gea the wrong way, as the man Moyes tried to sign over the summer came back to haunt him.
United showed little promise in the first half, as Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa combined masterfully on a few occasions, but Everton’s exuberant defense often closed them down before any harm was done.
However just before the break another counter-attack saw Seamus Coleman play in Mirallas to rifle the ball into the far corner and put the Toffees 2-0 up at the break.
Can United launch a dramatic fight back or will the Toffees pile more misery on their former manager?
