Arrested development: Washington RB Fogerson suspended

A little over a week after his arrest, Johri Fogerson has been metaphorically slapped by Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian.

The running back was arrested earlier this month and charged with resisting arrest and marijuana possession. The school subsequently confirmed it was aware of the incident, and Sarkisian said in a statement last week that “when any action is taken on our part, we will have further comment.”

As it turns out, Fogerson has been suspended ever since his arrest. Per the school’s policy, a misdemeanor arrest -- which is the case with Fogerson -- automatically triggers a suspension and can be lifted by the head coach.

Sarkisian has yet to lift the suspension, which means Fogerson is indefinitely suspended. It’s unclear if Fogerson will be cleared to participate in spring practice, which begins March 29.

Fogerson, expected to challenge for significant playing time this season, suffered a season-ending hip injury in 2010 that limited him to just one game. As a sophomore in 2009, he played in nine games.
