Bert Reed feels he’s close to playing in Champs Sports Bowl

Florida State’s veteran receiver Bert Reed was considered to be done for both the Champs Sports Bowl and his career because of a hamstring injury he sustained earlier this month.

Turns out, that conclusion may have been a bit premature.

There’s no definitive feeling one way or the other about Reed’s playing status in the bowl -- coach Jimbo Fisher said Reed is “still not bursting out of cuts” -- but Reed indicated after practice today that he feels closer to playing Thursday than not.

I feel way closer,” Reed said. “It’s just, sometimes I run a route and I realize I’m hurting a little bit. As far as how it felt and how I expected it to feel, I feel way better. The trainers did a good job … It really got me back to where I needed to be. It got me ahead of schedule.”

Perhaps Reed is just an optimistic competitor, but the news certainly sounds better than Fisher’s “probably done” omen a few weeks ago.
