Florida State’s veteran receiver Bert Reed was considered to be done for both the Champs Sports Bowl and his career because of a hamstring injury he sustained earlier this month.
Turns out, that conclusion may have been a bit premature.
There’s no definitive feeling one way or the other about Reed’s playing status in the bowl -- coach Jimbo Fisher said Reed is “still not bursting out of cuts” -- but Reed indicated after practice today that he feels closer to playing Thursday than not.
“I feel way closer,” Reed said. “It’s just, sometimes I run a route and I realize I’m hurting a little bit. As far as how it felt and how I expected it to feel, I feel way better. The trainers did a good job … It really got me back to where I needed to be. It got me ahead of schedule.”
Perhaps Reed is just an optimistic competitor, but the news certainly sounds better than Fisher’s “probably done” omen a few weeks ago.
